Now after seven years, Google is finally calling it quits. In fact, it was Google's fourth attempt at social networking that was launched in 2011 after the failure of Google Buzz (2010), Google Friend Connect (2008), and Orkut (2004).īut even Google+ was also doomed to fail. By 2014, the New York Times likened the service to a ghost town, citing Google's claims of "540 million monthly active users but almost half do not visit the social network."
GOOGLE EARTH VR PHOTO SPHERES ANDROID
This technology wasn't actually anything new Apple had already accomplished this feat with the release of QuickTime VR in 1994.īut what was cool about photo spheres and what made them unique to Android devices at the time is that the images could easily be shared via the Web by uploading them to Google+ or publishing them to Google Maps for the world to see. I think they're viewable pretty much immediately.Back in 2012 Android phones offered the capability to shoot "photo spheres," Google's proprietary term for 360 interactive panoramic photos. It took me only a few minutes to import, tag, and upload the photos I had on my phone. This should make your photo fairly easy to find, since you can now search for a location by name in Google Earth VR.ĭon't forget to save the location as a favorite, if you want to find it again even quicker. You'll also need to add the photo to a point-of-interest (it will suggest nearby P.O.I.s for you). Make sure you create a sphere with location data being saved alternatively you can add a location marker, using the Street View app, pretty easily. You can view the photospheres in Google Maps or Earth or Earth VR.

FYI, the published images become publicly viewable and attributed to the name attached to the Google account that uploads them. The Street View app allows you to take or import Photospheres and upload them to Google Maps / Earth (VR). What you might not know is that you can add your own pictures for everyone to enjoy.ĭownload the Google Street View app: Android or iOS As I'm sure most of you know, Google Earth VR now allows you to view Street Views / Photospheres.
